Workplace happiness should be at the heart of your team. But instead of guessing what your people need, why not ask them?
Surveys and structured 121 conversations allow leaders to find out what drives happiness within individuals and also enables challenges to be addressed faster building trust and certainty.
Why Focus on Workplace Happiness?
Happiness in the workplace isn’t just a “nice to have”; it drives engagement, productivity, and loyalty.
When people feel happy and supported, they’re naturally more motivated, collaborative, and committed. They’re engaged.
Using surveys or ‘people pulse’ methods i.e. check-in questions within regular 121s helps leaders begin to implement happiness by gaining a clearer understanding of their teams’ needs.
The Options: Online Surveys, Check-Ins, or Both
To get a feel of workplace happiness, there are two effective approaches:
- Interactive Online Surveys – Anonymous and quick, these provide insights across teams while identifying overall trends. But be aware, survey fatigue comes around quick. Provide time and space for people to complete surveys so they don’t feel rushed or pressured.
- Pulse Check-Ins via 121s – For a more personal approach, integrate key “Check-In” questions into your regular 121s. This allows for deeper, one-on-one conversations about happiness and challenges.
Here’s what the online survey looks like.
You can use my 121 template for adding these “Pulse” questions by clicking the link below and downloading the file.
Please go ahead and give the survey a try. I recommend sharing the link with a few trusted people internally. If you’d like to use a more tailored version, I’d be happy to help – just email andygallimore@culturev8te.co.uk
